SYNOPSIS

fragment of the explosion of the planet Rothko, Mark, American painter

committed suicide in 1970.

Put a pot full of water on the stove. A 45  degrees the water will be hot, at 70  hot, at 99 near boiling point. But it will always and still be water. At 100  degrees, not sooner or later, the passage will take place, and it will become vapor.

This metaphor was devised by Rothko while trying to explain to a friend  artist what happens when we get rid of everything we have learned, it influences us, us  conditions, oppresses us: the masters, the models, the tradition, the rules, the theories. Own  like water, suddenly, but never by chance, it becomes something else: steam.

Rothkonite tries to eliminate every memory of the figuration and every obstacle  conceptual. No memory, no reference to a further reality. Pictures only  hypnagogics that float in the darkness of closed eyelids. Light from black, like the

last paintings of the artist: to exhaust the pictorial gesture to make room for  iconic dissolution. Going to the truth, to the exception, denying the

possible. Rothkonite is also configured as an error, a filmic bug, an error  which is not circumvented or dismissed, but taken head on, deepened, studied in  all its facets. The error ceases to be such, so does the darkness, and the territory  error becomes the only possible one.

SYNOPSIS

Rothkonite, fragment of Rothko's planet explosion, Mark, American painter who committed suicide in 1970.

Place a pot, full of water, on the stove. At 45 degrees the water will be hot, at 70 it will be scorching and at 99 it will be close to boiling. But it will still be water. At precisely 100 degrees the transition will take place, and it will become vapor.

This metaphor was devised by Rothko while he was trying to explain to an artist friend what happens when we get rid of everything that we have learned, that affects us, influences us, and burdens us: teachers, models, traditions, rules and theories.

Exactly like water, all of a sudden, but never casually, one transforms into something different: vapor. Rothkonite attempts to delete every configured memory and every conceptual obstacle with no memory and with no reference to a further reality. Only hypnagogic images that fluctuate in the darkness of closed eyes. Light from black, like the last paintings by the artist: exhausting the pictorial gesture, in order to leave space to the iconic dissolution. Pushing ourselves towards what is true, towards the exception, neglecting what is possible. Rothkonite also sets out to be a mistake, a filmic bug, a mistake that is not eluded nor dismissed, but faced, analyzed and scrutinized in all its facets instead. The mistake then is no longer a mistake, nor is it darkness, and the mistake becomes the only possible choice.
